Our new topic this term will be based around the stories of Katie Morag. More details to follow.

Pupils enjoyed our mini science topic on water. We brought ice in from outside and timed it melting. We filled ice cube trays with water and guessed how long they would take to turn to ice. We had guesses from 2 minutes to 2 years! Pupils now have a better idea. We also experimented with melting ice. We left a rain guage in the playground and measured rainfall. The first week we had no rain at all! Then we had 4 mm in one day. We learned about the water cycle and we created a water cycle drama. Some of us were mountains, the sun, the sea, clouds and rain or snow. There is a sample of our acrostic Water Poems on the Big Writing page.

All classes were lucky to work with Margaret today. She is Schools Project Officer at Forth Valley Orchards’ Initiative, Forth Environment Link.
Pupils learned all about the different seasons and how this looks in an orchard. We used fabric crayons to colour blossoms, green leaves, autumn leaves and apples. These will be sewn onto 4 tea towels with tree templates.

We had a Fairtrade assembly today by the Fairtrade
Multi-stage group. Corey and Shaun were our class representatives.

We learned about how Fairtrade products help people in other countries. Pupils painted a foot today and are taking a step towards Fairtrade. They also signed a Fairtrade petition in school. If you have any products with the Fairtrade logo please cut off for your child to bring in and we will glue these to out Fairtrade art. Many thanks.

You can find out more about Fairtrade at http://www.fairtrade.org.uk/

Eco Activities
We have set up recycling and composting routines within school. P1 are super at putting recycling in the blue bin, litter in the green bin and fruit waste in the brown bin. As part of the Zero Waste Project parents and pupils from P1 are invited to attend a free cinema show on Saturday 2nd December at the Bo’ness Hippodrome.
There are still 4 tickets left. Please contact the school office urgently if you wish to attend.
Here is a trailer of the first ever Womble programme. Please blog a message to let the class know if you enjoyed the film and/or recycling activities. Have fun and remember the bus leaves at 10am from the school.

To celebrate Burns Day on the 25th of January we will be learning an assortment of Scottish songs and poems. The class will be learning ‘Show Us Yer Haggis’ which can be viewed below. They will perform this together at our Burns Assembly on Monday 28th.

If your child would like to learn a poem or song to perform individually then they are welcome to learn one of the following or choose a Scottish poem or song which they know.

  1. I had a great time on Saturday. I really enjoyed the litter pick game and the Wombles film was great! Mariyah.
